BikAir: Boosting in situ knowledge and monitoring of dynamic Air Quality parameters in urban environments

  • Subject: Urban climate
  • Study site: Würzburg
  • Funding: Research fund of the Faculty of Philosophy I of the University of Würzburg
  • Contact: Thorsten Dahms

The funding will be used to further develop and test self-developed static and mobile "low-cost" IOT (Internet Of Things) sensors for data acquisition of urban environmental parameters such as temperature, pressure, humidity and fine dust pollution in Würzburg in order to support a successful further application for a long-term project. The measured data from these sensors will serve as the basis for calculating trend analyses and models for monitoring the urban climate in the further course of the project. In this context, data fusion with multispectral and multitemporal remote sensing data sets as well as digital elevation and surface models will be used to model temporally and spatially high-resolution trends in urban areas. In addition, these data can also be used in other projects or student research projects, since especially in the field of remote sensing in situ collected data is an important basis both for validation and for the establishment of models and analyses.
