MIGRAWARE

  • Subject: Interne und grenzüberschreitende Migration in Westafrika
  • Study site: Westafrika (Burkina Faso, Ghana, Nigeria)
  • Funding: Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung (BMBF)

The goal of MIGRAWARE is to deliver a scientific-technological framework for assessing the processes, drivers and factors of rural-urban and cross-border migration in West Africa. MIGRAWARE will suggest governance instruments suitable to alleviate migration needs, improve local livelihoods and sustain human-environmental interactions. The project intends to reveal the typical pathways and (hi)stories of migration that include the movement from poor hinterlands to urban conglomerations and other places so that governance instruments can be tailored for the local, national and intergovernmental (cross-boundary) level.

Our work in MIGRAWARE focuses on spatial analyzes of land use and land cover in the study areas of Nigeria, Burkina Faso and Ghana as well as migration. There is a special focus on migration triggered by rural industries.

MIGRAWAREs runtime is from 01.06.2021 to 31.05.2024. The project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) through the German Center for Aerospace e.V. (DLR) under the grant number 01LG2082B.
