Development of socio-economic and ecological indicators to analyse urban poverty using remote sensing

The aim of this doctoral thesis is the selection, evaluation and description of indicators that can describe deprivation of diverse basic needs and services in an urban environment. Some of the indicators considered so far are: the management of urban residual waste and electricity shortages. These are meant to be analyzed mainly with Remote Sensing techniques and using Earth Observation Data. The interest is to perform the analysis in a couple of 'Arrival Cities', or cities where inequality in physical infrastructure of dwellings is being reported in South America and Europe. The main objective of this thesis is to enlarge the applicability of Remote Sensing for understanding poverty in urban systems.
