New publication in journal "Landscape and Urban Planning"

04/24/2024

We have published a new study on the cooling effect of urban trees and green spaces in the journal Landscape and Urban Planning (Rahman et al. 2024).

We were able to show that tree canopies are a promising option to mitigate the urban heat island effect. Irrespective of this, however, a clear, data-driven guideline for identifying particularly suitable tree species is still lacking. To this end, we propose four research priorities to advance such evidence-based studies and facilitate the comparability of results.

More than a canopy cover metric: Influence of canopy quality, water-use strategies and site climate on urban forest cooling potential.
