In the journal Ecology and Evolution, we addressed the question of how to determine the spatial distribution of insects based on bioclimatic variables in a Mediterranean region extended to the north.

For this purpose, we compared different data sets and calculation methods. We found that individual variables evolve depending on the temporal observation used in the method. Looking at the data sets, a more uniform picture emerges, in which only individual subregions are affected by major differences. As a result, when using bioclimatic variables, a high degree of transparency must be applied with regard to the method used, and the selection of variables should be made taking into account the datasets, regions, time periods and species studied.
