Publication in Weather and Climate Extreme

We have published a new paper entitled "Projected changes in rainfall amount and distribution in the Democratic Republic of Congo – Evidence from an ensemble of high-resolution climate simulations" in the journal Weather and Climate Extremes.

For this, we investigated the behavior of various precipitation-based climate indices using the regional climate models available for Africa from CORDEX-CORE. After validating the models and their ensemble for a historical period, we investigated the development of the climate indices under the assumption of two emission scenarios (RCP2.6, RCP8.5) for the future.

For the end of the 21. century (2070-2100), a significant decrease in precipitation was observed. At the same time, extreme precipitation will increase. Consequently, we can expect drier conditions and an increased risk of heavy rainfall and flooding in the DR Congo.
