Dr. Janek Walk, together with Dr. Philipp Marr and tutor Hannah Andlinger, received the Univie Teaching Award from the Faculty of Earth Sciences, Geography and Astronomy at the University of Vienna in June. It was awarded to the group in the Geography study program for the Physiogeographical Field Course in the Kaunertal, which was jointly organized in the summer semester 2024 and attended by 25 students. Following nomination by the student body, the teaching concept was awarded by the faculty committee in the category “Guiding and Supporting Self-Study.” Another key strength of the course is its structured and interactive feedback approach with a flat hierarchy. The award was presented on June 12, 2025, during a faculty event by the Vice Dean for Teaching and the Head of the Student Service Center. See University of Vienna for  more information.

Before moving to the Chair of Geomorphology at JMU Würzburg, Dr. Janek Walk worked as a postdoctoral university assistant at the University of Vienna in the working group ENGAGE (Geomorphological Systems and Risk Research) from beginning of 2023 to July 2024, where he was involved in bachelor's, master's, and teacher training programs in geography.
