Tenure-Track Assistant Professor
(Grade W1 with tenure-track leading to professorship Grade W2)
Research at the Institute of Geography and Geology
to be filled by 1 April 2021
This assistant professorship is a temporary civil servant position for an initial period of three years. Following this probation period of three years the contract can be extended to a total of six years, subject to a positive interim evaluation. After such a successful interim evaluation and at the earliest two years before the expiry of the temporary civil service contract, theincumbent can apply for tenure track. Conversion to a permanent position and appointment as University Professor (grade W2-professorship) with a civil service contract for life will only be granted if the incumbent meets all requirements as stipulated by the University's internal quality assurance concept.
The successful candidate will represent the field of Georesources Research in both research and teaching. The focus of his/her research activities are expected to be in the field of sustainable and efficient use of georesources in the context of global change. In addition, research on the distribution, future availability and equitable use of georesources and their recycling is welcomed.Active interdisciplinary collaboration with existing research groups at the Institute and the University is expected.
The professorship constitutes an integral part of the teaching activities at the Institute of Geography and Geology. Thus, the incumbent carries full responsibilities in teaching and course examinations. Past experience in raising external research funds and ininterdisciplinary research cooperationis expected.
Requirements for filling the position are a completed university degree in an appropriate field of study, pedagogical aptitude and a proven ability to conduct scientific work, usually documented by the candidate’s outstanding doctoral thesis in the area of Geosciences (see Sentence 1 of Article 14 of the Bavarian Act on Personnel in Higher Education - Bayerisches Hochschulpersonalgesetz, BayHSchPG).
If the candidate has worked as a research associate or research assistant before or after completing his/her doctoral degree, the total duration of the period as PhD student plus the time spent in an employment relationship may not exceed six years in total at the time of appointment (see sentence 3 of Article 14 BayHSchPG).
