Sebastian Klüsener and Tamilwai Kolowa report on their work in the context of population and geography.
They will provide an overview of interdisciplinary research at the Federal Institute for Population Research (BiB) combining demography, geography, and spatial analysis with Earth observation (EO) data. The talk will highlight research on spatial population structures and dynamics, including regional perspectives on urban–rural disparities in population aging as well as relationships between social status, fertility, mortality, and spatial context. Both speakers will also explore small-area population change in Germany, using EO-informed approaches to examine urban and suburban development patterns and to analyze internal migration flows across metropolitan regions between 2011 and 2022.
